Deployment Textile Engineer

We’re looking for a hands-on Deployment Textile Engineer to support the deployment and operation of our OneWeave™ 3D weaving technology at our manufacturing partner in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, near Naroda Road.

You’ll be the first line of textile technical support onsite, working alongside factory operators, a project manager, field service technician, and unspun’s remote textile and mechanical engineering teams. You’ll investigate what’s happening in production, run tests, analyze results, solve textile and process problems, and turn what we learn on the factory floor into continuous improvement.

You’ll also represent unspun at our partner facility, building trusted relationships and helping teams across both organizations work effectively together.

Why This Role Matters

OneWeave™ combines textiles, robotics, sensors, software, and industrial automation to create garments and textile products directly from yarn.

As we deploy and ramp this technology in production, we need textile engineering expertise directly on the factory floor. When something involving weaving, yarn, materials, fabric quality, or process performance isn’t behaving as expected, you’ll help determine what’s happening, why it’s happening, and what we should do next.

You’ll connect what’s happening onsite in Ahmedabad with the teams developing OneWeave™ in the US, helping us improve both the technology and how we operate it.

What You'll Do

• Support the deployment, testing, ramp-up, and continuous improvement of OneWeave™ at our partner factory

• Serve as the first line of response for weaving, yarn, material, fabric quality, and textile process issues

• Develop and execute test plans, operate OneWeave™ equipment, and support daily textile testing and production runs

• Perform quality testing inspection, analyzing weaving inputs and outputs using quantitative and qualitative data to identify patterns, problems, and opportunities for improvement

• Investigate textile and process issues, determine likely causes, test potential solutions, and document results

• Assess and prioritize issues based on severity, production impact, available workarounds, and urgency

• Partner with factory operations and US-based textile, mechanical, and development teams to troubleshoot and resolve issues

• Support yarn and material sourcing, supplier communication, testing, and validation for development and production runs

• Work with material vendors and suppliers on testing requirements, standards, and performance

• Develop and improve machine operation and testing SOPs, troubleshooting guides, training manuals, and supporting documentation

• Identify recurring problems and opportunities to improve equipment, materials, processes, documentation, and training

• Provide clear, concise updates to US-based teams on factory status, testing, project progress, risks, findings, and next steps

• Capture technical information so engineers who aren't physically onsite can understand factory issues and take action
  

Who You Are

You’re a textile engineer who likes being close to the actual work. You understand fibers, yarns, woven structures, fabric quality, and manufacturing processes, but you’re also comfortable getting onto the factory floor, operating equipment, running tests, and figuring out why something isn’t working as expected.

You’re curious and methodical. You don't simply fix a symptom and move on. You gather information, test assumptions, analyze results, and try to understand the underlying cause.

You also know that deployment work is collaborative. You can build strong working relationships with factory operators and managers while partnering effectively with engineers and teams thousands of miles away.

When production pressure is high, you remain composed, communicate clearly, and keep moving the work toward resolution.

What Makes You a Great Fit?

• Hands-on experience with production weaving, textile manufacturing, fabric development, and textile quality systems

• Strong understanding of textile fibers, yarn properties, woven structures, fabric quality, and manufacturing constraints

• Experience developing and executing textile or manufacturing test plans

• Ability to collect and analyze quantitative and qualitative data and translate findings into practical improvements

• Experience troubleshooting textile, weaving, material, quality, or production-process issues

• Experience working directly in a factory or production environment

• Familiarity with quality systems, root-cause analysis, production metrics such as Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) and downtime analysis, or continuous-improvement methods

• Experience working with yarn or material suppliers on sourcing, testing, validation, or quality

• Strong written and verbal communication with factory operators, engineers, suppliers, and leadership

• Ability to document technical findings clearly for teams that aren't physically onsite

• Strong ownership, judgment, reliability, and process discipline

Education

Degree or diploma in Textile Engineering, Textile Technology, or a closely related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.

Language Requirements

• Professional working English required

• Professional working proficiency in Gujarati or Hindi required for effective factory-floor communication (proficiency in both is strongly preferred)

Preferred Experience

• Experience troubleshooting automated textile manufacturing equipment

• Production deployment, ramp-up, commissioning, or New Product Introduction (NPI) experience

• Experience designing practical experiments and translating results into production improvements

• Lean Manufacturing, Lean Six Sigma, structured root-cause analysis, or continuous-improvement experience

• Experience using OEE, downtime, quality, or other production data to investigate manufacturing performance

• Experience developing SOPs, troubleshooting guides, or training materials

• Experience supporting technical teams across countries and time zones

Schedule

This is an onsite role based at our partner factory near Naroda Road in Ahmedabad, India.

The factory operates across three shifts. You’ll primarily support the first and second shifts and participate in on-call coverage.

During onboarding, deployment, and factory ramp-up, extended onsite days may be required. Longer-term hours will vary based on operational needs.

Some work outside normal local hours will be required for urgent production support and collaboration with US-based teams.

You must live close enough to the factory to provide practical onsite support when needed.

International Travel

Travel may include approximately one two-week visit per quarter, including travel to unspun's headquarters and micro-factory in Emeryville, California for training, textile development, testing, and collaboration with our US teams.
